The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot in Jan 2012
Interview
Got a call from an 866 number regarding my application. I applied for many positions online, Head Cashier is what I was called for. Had a brief phone interview with the usual questions, dealing with difficult people, going above and beyond for a customer, why do I want to work at Home Depot. Got an in-store interview about 2 weeks later. Really great people I interviewed with. First the front line guy then the store manager. Both were very personable and I think I would really have liked working with them, they seemed fair and level. Usual questions again - difficult customers, above and beyond customer service provided, a "walk through" with a scenario of a customer coming in the store looking confused. Hey- talk with them! seems logical. Home Depot is all about exceptional customer service and these guys took pride in that. The only issue was that no one mentioned pay or that it was a temporary position. They liked me and wanted to take me on full-time though and were going to go the extra mile on that. Unfortunately when the pay was mentioned it was very low- $9.81. I simply could not afford to work for them and I'm sorry that they pay so little.

Question 1
Nothing difficult or unexpected. All about customer service, give examples of excellent customer service.
Quite simple, you complete an application online and come in for a day of shadowing at the store. You will discuss a few interview questions with a manager and then they will give you a tour of the store.

Question 1
Describe a scenario in which you had to solve a problem in a group setting
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Calgary, AB) in Mar 2025
Interview
It was an in-person interview held at the store. The interview was relaxed and friendly. The manager asked about my previous customer service experience, how I handle busy hours, and my ability to lead a team at the front end. They also asked situational questions to see how I would respond to customer concerns or team issues. The whole process was clear, professional, and supportive.

Question 1
They asked like Can you describe a time when you had to resolve a conflict?
I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at The Home Depot (Gloucester Courthouse, VA) in Sept 2024
Interview
My interviewer asked basic questions, which were nothing too difficult. They are looking for how you handled past situations and want more than just one or two sentences, try to tell them the story from start to end with details but at the same time make sure you are not talking about the same story for 2+ minutes.
