      Post-Doc Recruiter Interview

      28 Feb 2023
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Boston, MA
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at The Broad Institute (Boston, MA) in Feb 2023

      Interview

A recruiter contacted me for this position and my interview was scheduled for February 1st. It was a zoom interview with the Manager, Recruiting Operations that lasted for just under a half hour. The hiring manager was about 5 minutes late to the interview and instantly seemed as though she was very flustered and distracted. The hiring manager started by giving me an overview of the Broad Institute, her background, and a description/background of the position. It was a nice overview, except for the fact that the hiring manager spoke incredibly fast the entire time, almost seeing as if she was trying to rush the interview as quickly as possible. She then opened up the interview for questions where it was more of a conversation style back and forth where we both were asking each question on the position, team, my background, etc. During this conversation and rather towards the end of the interview, I could hear a bunch of commotion in the background on her end and it ended up being her kids coming home from school. I had no issue with this whatsoever, except that it again seemed as though she was very distracted and seemingly wanted to end the interview as quickly as possible. We wrapped up the interview and about 27 days later, (February 1st - February 27th) the recruiter had finally heard from the Manager, of Recruiting Operations that they weren't going to be moving forward with me and with zero feedback to provide. I'm not disappointed that I wasn't selected to move forward and I'm not disappointed that it took so long to get feedback. I'm disappointed that there was no detailed feedback as to why I was not chosen, and more so, that because it took so long to make a decision, and as I felt that the hiring manager was not 100% engaged in the call, I'm very curious if the hiring manager even took any notes and/or remembers the conversation. Very disappointing experience from a reputable organization.
