      Executive Team Leader Interview

      3 Dec 2011
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Target in Nov 2011

      Interview

The Executive Team Leader (ETL) interview process really puts you as a candidate through a lot in a very informative, and the most well organized interview process I have even been through. The recruiters and staffing specialist were really involved and had great communication skills throughout each and every interaction. First I applied online, about a month later I received my first form of contact from a Target recruiter. I was asked to schedule a phone interview time. I completed my first interview and the recruiter was very kind, informed me that he would pass me on for a second interview and provided me with some constructive criticism to help me throughout future interviews. At the end of the phone call I was sent a link to complete an online assessment which asked questions regarding your character and leadership skills. A few days after both were complete I was contacted regarding the next interview which I scheduled with a Store Team Leader (STL/general manager) near my campus. I was very nervous for the in person interview because this is generally the interview where you either make or break your entry to Target, or so I have been told. Once in the office of the STL she went over the same introduction the recruiter did at the beginning of my phone interview. She was very friendly and asked for clarification if something did not make sense to her. As all the interviews with Target, the were "tell me about a time when" and you had to pull from your knowledge of previous situations and provide background information on the situation, tell them what your actions were, and tell them what the outcome was (even if bad). One of my questions I provided a quite negative outcome and told her what I learned from that experience and she was more than impressed. After the five situational questions, I was able to ask her questions about Target, the position and anything else on my mind. I was also informed if they would like to proceed with me as a candidate I would be contacted within seven business days. The next day I sent an e-mail to both the STL and my recruiter and thanked them for their time thus far and etc. Within a few hours I was called and extended two different options as to when to complete my third interview with a District Team Leader (DTL/district manager). Two weeks from the STL interview I had the DTL interview which followed the exact same format as the first two interviews. Upon my arrival at the district office, I was given a consent & disclosure form to sign as well as a packet for drug testing. While waiting for the DTL to be ready, I talked with an HR rep which was very friendly and seemed generally interested in my life and goals. I feel like these people are here just to gain insight to your personality and see if you fit the Target culture so it is important to make good conversation with them. The interview went well and I was told I would hear from the staffing specialist if they would like to continue forward and to keep the drug test paperwork in the event a position was offered. A few days after, I was contacted regarding my final interview with the Group Director (area manager of about 60 stores). The final phone interview was scheduled for 15 minutes and I was asked two questions. Why I think I'm a great candidate for Target as well as where I could see myself with the company in five years. I provided my answers to the Group Director in the first three minutes and the rest of the time was room for me to ask questions. After receiving some information I wanted to know, I was told he would reach out to the other team members that conducted my interviews and I would be contacted within 7 business days regarding their hiring decision. That night I followed up with each person I interviewed with and confirmed my interest in the position. The next afternoon I received a call from my recruiter with an offer contingent upon successful completion of a drug test and background check. I listened to the offer and asked for time to review it as it was e-mailed to me within a few hours. A few days after receiving the offer I accepted and was given information on the general area I would be in when I started and what my ideal start date was. While a lot of work the Target ETL interview was informative, organized a rewarding experience. Even if I didn't make it past a certain point I feel like the interview would have provided each candidate with great experience as it was by far the most intense interview process I have ever gone through.

      Interview

It was a two step interview process. Personable and you are able to interview with not only your direct managers but theirs as well. Provides transparency into your new team. My interview was virtual because I was moving to the area, but I'm sure they do in person for local folks.
