      Apparel Associate Interview

      18 Jun 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Target

      Interview

The online application was easy and straightforward. They called me about two weeks after I applied asking if I could come in to interview the next week. I was taken off guard when the woman on the phone asked me to tell her about myself, and stumbled through it a bit clumsily, but she was very nice and put me at ease quickly. She asked if I would like a 9 am, 9:45 am, or 11 am appointment. The day of the interview I went to guest services at Target and told them I had an interview. The trainer there asked me to wait on the bench by pharmacy and someone would come for me. I waited about 30 minutes, watching employees go back and forth into and out of the employee area next to the bench. Finally a woman came out, introduced herself as the department manager, and led me to what looked like a meeting room with long tables arranged into a square. We sat down and she began by asking me to tell her about myself. What followed were four questions which she read off a paper asking for specific examples of times I had dealt with conflict or a situation in the workplace. She took notes as I talked. She was friendly and answered all my questions in detail. She also explained the duties of the position. This took about 20 minutes. After she was finished, she left and I waited about 20 minutes for the next interviewers. This time it was another manager and an intern who was going to ask the questions. They asked me to tell them about myself, but wanted more of a personal answer, what my hobbies were, etc. Then they asked four more situational questions similar to the previous situational questions. We also discussed salary, hours, what would be expected of a team member, and benefits. I was told that although this was a seasonal position, they generally keep their good employees. After they left, I waited another 20 minutes and then met the store manager, who verified that the hours I had asked for were correct then offered me a position (this is tentative until your background check comes back clear). Everyone was very nice and friendly, and put me at ease. It was long, and the questions were excessive but I liked everyone I met.

      Interview

In the first interview, you answer reflective questions on things you've done. Ex: "Describe a time you overcame a challenge.." The second interview was more workplace/hours focused, but you still have to answer reflective questions. This second interview is usually with a higher manager.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Target (Fort Collins, CO) in Sept 2018

      Interview

The interview process has drastically changed at Target from in the past. For the apparel and accessories position, you now have to not only answer the necessary questions they ask in a normal interview, but the interviewee also makes sure to test the candidate on the floor by having 5 minutes to pick out an outfit and accessorize. This includes why you chose that outfit, and for what occasion it might have been for. They are really trying to specialize their areas and choose people who have experience in these areas rather than people they are looking for to just fill open positions with no prior experience.

      Question 1

How would you approach a customer who is looking for an item in apparel?

      Interview

Usually you sit down with the HR Manager and the team lead. The questions are normally situational but nothing too hard. To prepare for the interview, researching questions such as “tell me about a time,” or “give me an example of when,” all will come in handy.

Give me a brief intro about yourself and why you wanted to work here?
