Interview
Someone from the company reached out to me for a phone interview at the beginning of April 2026.
After a single phone screening, we met in person at a coffee shop and he gave me an assignment. At first I thought he was just testing me on certain skills but it turned out he handed me an actual project. I ended up working on that project UNPAID with the promise of compensation and an offer at a later date.
I was driving back and forth between different suppliers in my personal car using my own fuel, contacting suppliers from my personal phone and email address and doing about 30-40 hours of work in my garage and on different trial versions of CAD software since he did not want to pay for it, and constantly having to answer to questions even on the weekends. As of the end of May, I decided to end it since I kept getting handed another "just one more thing".

Interview
Director called me asking to schedule the screening interview for in person the next day. I had plans made already so I asked how much time they’d need for the interview. He could see from my resume I was unemployed, and asked “Aren’t you unemployed, so why can you make it?” We ended up just doing the screening over the phone which I think made more sense, but the attitude was unnecessary.
