I applied through university. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Stryker (Fort Lauderdale, FL) in Mar 2016
Interview
I first had an interview on campus, followed by a Gallup phone interview, interview with the team-lead, and lastly a on-site interview. I heard back from the campus interview around 1 week after having it and scheduled a Gallup interview for the upcoming week. A majority of the application process was spent scheduling the on-site interview.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Most of the questions focused on my inter-personal skills, skill-set, and knowledge gained from past experiences. All interviews conducted focused on inter-personal skills and personality type of questions, aside from the on-site interview. I had previously worked in a research lab at my university, which was the highlight of the conversation for the on-site interview. Of all the interviews, I felt the on-site was the most difficult for me.
Conversation with HR rep. If you pass that interview, then you advance to the gallup interview. Finally you would have a final round of interviews with managers. Mine was a virtual final round.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Stryker
Interview
Applied to the role via job board and receive request to set up an interview 2 weeks later.
The interview was with a Senior R&D Manger and was expected to last 30 minutes. (Interview ended up lasting for a bit over an hour).
Overall I would rate this one of my worst interview experiences. It was evident that the interviewer was not interested. From being cut off continuously throughout the interview to the visible frustration seen if my response to his questions were more than a sentence, this interview felt more like an interrogation rather than a productive conversation to see if I was a fit candidate for the role.
The job description did not explicitly list out any specific areas of technical expertise this role required and the interviewer had noted that this role is not technical heavy. However, we still spent the majority of the time reviewing technical problems that wouldn’t be easy to prepare for.
I am interviewing with other roles at Stryker and this seems like an isolated events as my other interviews have been a positive experience.
Please view interviews like this as an extreme red flag. If you’re treated like this during an interview, you’ll be treated worse on the job.
