      HR Business Partner Interview

      11 Aug 2016
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Amsterdam
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Stryker (Amsterdam) in Apr 2016

      Interview

First a screening through the agency hired by Stryker to fulfill this position, then a meeting with the sr. HR business partner, took about one hour, pleasant interview. Mainly about the job itself, asking questions about my experience so far, what I am looking for, testing if I could fit within an American company etc. Second interview was by phone with a recruiter, also took about one hour, quite to the point questions, had to give a lot of examples, how I dealt in certain situations, what my achievements have been so far etc. Then Gallup interview, also by phone, took me 45 minutes, I wasn't allowed to ask questions, but only answer them, I was given instructions before hand about how to answer (short, to the point, be a bit arrogant/self confident, "american style"). I passed this test as well. Then two interviews, one with a Global HR manager and one with a business director. Both pleasant people, nice interview, more insight about the job, tasks, expectations etc. Feedback afterwards was bad, before the final interview I was still in touch with the HR business partner but she did not reply me when I asked feedback, the agency could not reach her either, after a week (while being promised to get feedback within 2 days) I only got a message from the agency mentioning Stryker was positive but never heard from anyone from Stryker anymore, which was quite odd given the previous contact I had with them. I had another good job offer at the same time so decided to continue with that, a shame because my first impression of Stryker was very positive but spending so much time on a candidate, investing with interviews and assessment and then not giving feedback is really a shame and you do not expect that from such a company like Stryker. Overall the application process took more then a month, which I find also quite long, also given the fact that I already informed them about me being enrolled in another application and they promised they would try and fasten the process because of that.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Stryker in Jul 2025

      Interview

Well, I was first contacted via email through an electronic system, notifying me that they were interested in interviewing me further. At that point, there was no personal communication just an automated setup for a phone screening with a recruiter. The screening took place, and the recruiter, who was very pleasant, thoroughly explained the role to me. She asked about my experience, I shared my background, and she told me they would follow up to let me know whether I had advanced to the next round, which would be a video interview with the hiring manager. The following day, I received an email confirming that I had been selected to move forward. I then interviewed with the hiring manager via video. The manager was kind, and the interview went smoothly. The questions weren’t too difficult it was quite manageable overall. However, after that, I didn’t hear anything for about a week. So, I went through my emails and found the recruiter’s contact information. I sent her a polite follow-up email inquiring when candidates could expect to hear back. Unfortunately, she never responded. The very next day, I received a generic rejection email from their applicant tracking system. I found that disappointing especially since I had taken the time to personally reach out. As a recruiter, she could have at least acknowledged my message. That experience left a bad taste in my mouth regarding Stryker. For me, that lack of professional courtesy reflected poorly on the company culture. If I take the time to communicate personally, I expect at least a minimal response in return. Based on that experience, I no longer have an interest in applying to work there again. The questions were surrounded around scalability, conflict resolution, buy-in, etc.
