I applied online. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at Street Law (Silver Spring, MD) in Aug 2019
Interview
This interview process involved MANY steps over a period of several weeks. They acknowledged that it was a detailed search process and expressed appreciation for my efforts several times. But it was A LOT of work as an applicant.
After I submitted my application materials and before any interview, I was asked to additionally submit some work samples with a short explanation of my involvement in the production process. Then I had a screening interview on the phone. Then I was scheduled for an in-person interview, but in advance of that, I had to complete an exercise. This involved some writing and some graphic design.
Then I had my in-person interview, and it was long and extensive - an interview with a handful of staff members (all at the same time) followed by an editing exercise and critiquing one of their newsletters.
After all of this, fortunately, I was asked for references, but I'm not sure if they contacted them or not. In the end, I was not offered the position - even after all of that work I put forth.
They really ask a lot of applicants, and if you don't have the time (if you are currently working while looking for a new position), I'd question whether you should put forth that much effort.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
One of the standard interview questions - why are you interested in this position and this organization?
I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Street Law (Silver Spring, MD) in Aug 2015
Interview
The whole thing took about a month, and they keep to their projected schedule but there is no communication really in between steps. First, there was the application deadline, and about a week after that they called to set up phone interviews. Next, you had your phone interview, and about a week later they emailed to set up an in face interview. Two weeks later was the in person interview. I found out that I did not receive the job a week later. The in person interview was comprised of two parts. First, the hiring committee interviews you in person. Then, you have to complete a list of tasks such as proof reading, responding to an email, and planning an event.
Overall, one of the most professional organizations with whom I have interviewed. Everyone there is so nice!
