I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Spotify (Gothenburg, Västra Götaland) in May 2016
Interview
I applied online and was contacted by a recruiter for a Skype interview 4 weeks later. The interview was a positive one and the recruiter was very good. Then a tech meeting was set up to test my programming skills which I had very limited of. It seemed that (and statistics of referrals confirm it) many who are interviewed are friends or former co workers of those already employed thus I was expected to know a bit more than I did about how Spotify handles their data. I was upfront about my limitations but both they and I were open to seeing my skill set. If you are a programmer the test was very basic, if a statistician I'd say get familiar with SQL.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Standard SQL questions on how to retrieve data from a database.
4 rounds process, incl. take-home case. Interviews were relatively straightforward with HR, Hiring manager, and Directors in the team. Mix of behavioral and technical questions. Take-home case was quite time consuming but very relevant for the role (recieve data set with a case question - expected to build a financial model and short presentation deck)
Interview was with HR. A very unpleasant experience: 1) The Interviewer was late and no apology was given. 2) No pleasantries or how are you, just straight into the robotic questioning. 3) HR said that if I had any questions I should email, I had to ask if I could ask questions during the call. Worst interview experience I have had. The HR interviewer shouldn't be vetting candidates as it gives a bad impression of Spotify.
Interview was okay, interviewers were patient and friendly and they took the effort to learn more about the candidate by asking the right questions. Not many stressful questions were asked.
