I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Oct 2025
Interview
Odd? Pre-HR screen, timed cognitive exam with IQ & math problems (e.g. spot the pattern, cross multiplying, calculate mean/average).
Then HR screen (recruiter arrived off camera). She asked me about the weather, then my most recent role. Then, “Okay that’s all I need, what questions do you have for me?”
While not unpleasant per se, but a strange experience overall.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
"What's the weather like where you are?"
"What do you do in your current role?"
"What questions do you have for me?"
The interviewer didn't want to be there.
Went through a series of questions, whose answers were already contained in the CV
Camera off...today is malfunctioning... probably was in pajama at home.
No specific knowledge on role KPI or else. Standard answer " you can ask this to the hiring manager"
I am asking Shopify, since they are championing AI usage.... isn't an AI Voice bot better than paying humans for such a pitiful work?
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Same usual dumb question a recruiter ask. Answers contained in the CV already.
Plus some STAR method idiocy...tell me a time when you did X etc.
Typical questions mediocre recruiter are fed with.
Pity
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Nov 2024
Interview
The whole process was very professional and straightforward. I worked with Luke from the European team, and he was great! He explained the role to me, was very transparent about the process, kept me in the loop, and was very understanding of my availability.
The entire process was atypical in a positive way compared to my previous experiences-very casual and engaging. Shopify truly cares about understanding not only your experience but also who you are as a person.
The team I met are wonderful, and I knew straight away that I wanted to work alongside such knowledgeable and supportive people. It was a great experience!
