I had a weird experience interviewing at Shopify. I had two rounds of interview: one with a recruiter and another one with another recruiter about my life story. I felt that both interviews went great although the recruiter on the second interview was very quiet from the beginning like she was forced to interview with me. Nonetheless, I still felt I did great.
However, shortly after that, I received an email thanking me for my time and informing me that they won't proceed forward because I lacked the required experience. Here is the email that I received:
Hello *****,
Thank you so much for taking the time to chat with us the other day! We really appreciate your time.
I wanted to let you know that after chatting with the team, and considering all the folks we have spoken to so far, we have decided to move forward with a smaller group of people whose experience was a closer match to what the team needs right now. Therefore, we won't be inviting you for further interviews at this time. However, I did want to thank you for considering Shopify, and to wish you all the best.
Many thanks,

This was so strange as I never had any technical question asked on both interviews and my answer was yes to any question about a specific tool or language, so to say that I lacked some experience sounded odd to me. So I requested some clarification about the experience that I lacked, and this was their response:
Hi *****,
Thank you for following up - unfortunately, I am unable to provide specific feedback but I would be happy to keep in touch should any future opportunities arise that I think you may be a good fit for.
Best,
*********
The response was even more ridiculous. What a transparent process that they couldn't even share with me what I lacked. Every other professional company that decided not to proceed with an offer was able to provide me with specific reasons about their decision.
Anyway, my experience was really negative, and so I wouldn't really recommend apply to Shopify if they continue with this attitude.
