      Recruiter Interview

      5 Mar 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Shopify in Jan 2021

      Interview

Interview process was all organized via email and the process was simple and straightforward. There were three interviews: in the first you meet with someone briefly on the team to discuss the role and they’ll answer any questions you may have, basically just to gauge interest. The second interview was a life story interview where a recruiter will ask you about your first job and basically have you run through your positions, education, decisions, etc from there. Lastly you have a one on one “deep dive” with a recruiter from the team and have to perform a “reverse life story” interview/meeting with someone else on the team. The deep dive wasn’t a deep dive - the recruiter didn’t ask any questions of any substance and just had me go over my experience, again. Basically a mini life story but only focusing on your most recent job. I was expecting more of a why did you do this or why did you do that, or more specific behavioural/situational questions. They don’t take any notes and I can’t imagine recruiters ask the same questions across interviews because it is so conversational, so I can see standardization being a big issue across multiple recruiters running simultaneous interviews. The team seems very junior so hopefully they are never questioned about their selection process because they won’t have very much to provide from a legal standpoint of why they didn’t select or go forward with a candidate should they ever be questioned. The reverse life story interview is simple enough, just follow the same format they go through when they performed a life story on you. Overall their recruitment process and their recruiters function seems like just sitting through life stories all day - you get to meet some interesting people and candidates I’m sure but that would get old relatively quickly for me. I would recommend this role to new grads/those without recruitment experience; those with experience may be a little underwhelmed once seeing the reality of the full scope of the role. From what I took away, Shopify seems like a great place to work, but the recruiters could be adding much more value to the organization.

      Interview

Unconventional which seemed Ok at first. The place had a real cult of personality vibe to it. Everyone was nice, but I really did get the sense of a "we are holier than thou feeling".

      Interview

The process was unnecessarily long, lacked direction and at times irrelevant. The technical test was essentially a 3 question test on excel functions. The life story was one of the strangest interviews I have been involved in. The recruiter came off as arrogant and disinterested. At times I felt like they were just gathering information on my previous employers. Judging by some of the comments on their company culture, I'm glad I dodged a bullet. Zero feedback received too which says it all about their culture.

      Interview

The recruitment process I went through was quite interesting and involved several stages. First, I completed an online test that evaluated my behavioral and logical skills. After that, I had an online meeting with the recruiter. This was followed by another online session specifically designed to test my data skills. Then, there was a life story interview, and the last stage was a reverse life story interview. I received feedback within about 1.5 weeks.
