      Structural Engineer Interview

      28 Oct 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Sensequake in Oct 2021

      Interview

Applied through LinkedIn and was messaged a few days later to arrange a time for a zoom meeting. The interview was pretty standard, tell me about yourself, tell me about your research, what do you know about our company, are you willing to relocate, etc. Things went off the rails when salary was mentioned however. I was asked expectations and responded with a range based on what salaries other engineers with similar experience/qualifications are making as well as two offers I have been presented in the past week (mind you I'm out of province so my expectations are probably 5k/yr too high). I was told candidates with a masters typically start at 50k and PhD's start at 60k. The interviewer seemed defensive when I told him I could budge 5% on my expectations and shifted the interview to how Montreal's COL is cheaper than the GTA and that he has hundreds of other applicants. The interview ended no more than 2mins after that and I'm probably not getting a call back. I'll be accepting an offer at a different company making 50-60% more. Good luck
