The owner interviewed me. I was looking for something part-time. I haven’t worked in over five years. I was excited to get back to work. I love animals and I showed my enthusiasm. I told the owner that I was 39….and I guess look 39? The owner kept telling me how old I was.
I was the finance manager for many years. I also did the human resource for that company. It is unethical to continually bring up somebody’s age, and to remind them of how old they are during the interview and mind you, this lady was in her 50s.
All that aside I was asked to come and do a working interview a couple days later for four hours, unpaid. So I come enthusiastically, to work for free for four hours. I don’t sign anything. The person that I am shadowing is late. She drives to bring up liberal politics. I don’t agree with her politics so I just keep my mouth closed. She looks older than my old self, but I guess that doesn’t matter tries to super impressed me but I guess I was not impressed enough. I’m glad I didn’t get the job. Because if I was to be reminded all the time of how old I was myself, self-esteem would probably be in the toilet.
