      PR Executive Interview

      7 Sept 2015
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Singapore
      Declined offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Publicist PR (Singapore)

      Interview

I did not take up a job here as I did not get a good impression of the place from the interview. I had to wait about 15 minutes for the interview to start, and during that time I heard the staff's interactions. I cannot pinpoint who they were as the working area was hidden behind a curtain, but it sounded like one person, a lady, nagging and throwing instructions at others, followed by begrudging replies, or silence. When some of the staff walked out, they looked rather unhappy. I was then interviewed by Ms Cecelia Tan, who was rather condescending throughout the interview, and at times just plain rude. In addition, I was asked to submit a writing test prior to the interview, had to do another one at the interview itself, and yet another one after the interview. I was puzzled as to why so many tests were necessary, and a senior from the PR industry guessed that the firm might be leaching ideas and content from applicants' "writing tests". Lo and behold, someone else's review here testified that it's true.

As over 50% of the time is devoted to writing of press materials and liaising with the media, all candidates are required to submit writing samples (plural) of press releases. For graduating students without prior experience, they need to sit through one written test if they do not have relevant writing samples. Candidates whom we are unable to ascertain their writing ability on the first test may be ask to go through a second test. We are afraid we could not offer the position as you did not make the cut. An important part of the interview process is also to come in with the right expectations. Apart from giving full attention to the interviewer, it is essential to come prepared with an understanding of the role of public relations executive.
