I applied and fairly quickly was set up for a 30 minute call with an engineer.
The first 30 minute call was pretty casual, some questions about my experience and what I had been working with. A couple easy technical questions.
At the end of the call I was told they would send me a take home that they compensate people for. I thought 'oh nice a company that cares about the time being spent on take homes'. Granted the compensation wasnt going to be equivalent to time spent but it was a nice gesture.
The take home was rather comprehensive. Basically a full stack app with a crud feature. Back end, front end, design etc. I spent an entire weekend working on it,
Submitted the take home and was then ghosted. No mention of the compensation, or even any feedback on why I wasnt being considered.
Absolutely unacceptable IMO. First of all, why bring up the compensation? Secondly, if youre going to have candidates spend days building something to showcase their skills at least have the decency to let them know why you arent moving forward with them.
I honestly would not be surprised if they used this as a way to get cheap work.
I would caution anyone who's considering of interviewing here that they should forget the compensation and also be prepared to be ghosted after submitting.
The whole process begs the question; if they act like this to candidates how do they treat employees?
