I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Pinterest in Jan 2024
Interview
I was approached by a recruiter on LinkedIn and sent my resume over. After doing an online assessment, I was invited to a phone screening. It went great, but as soon as I mentioned I needed immigration sponsorship, they killed the candidacy because they didn't offer it for that position. They did offer it for another similar position, however, and fast-tracked me to the technical interviews for that position. But I didn't make it further. It would have been good to know that information beforehand, as it was never disclosed to me.

Question 1
Since I signed an NDA, I can't talk about specific questions. However, I will say that understanding data science mathematical fundamentals and core CS skills are crucial.

Interview
Tech Round 2 sql questions two python questions and one experimental case study which takes about one hour total. The interviewer is with someone shadow. The interview process is ok. Recruiter responded time is ok.
When I applied for this data scientist job, the interview process kicked off with a quick recruiter screen where I walked through my background and tried to sound naturally enthusiastic while also praying they wouldn’t ask me to define MLOps in a sentence. Then I moved on to a technical phone round, which turned into an unexpectedly deep dive into pandas operations and left me second-guessing everything I thought I knew about DataFrames. After that came the “simple” take-home assignment that somehow ate my entire weekend and required me to dust off parts of linear algebra I hadn’t touched in years. Finally, the onsite loop involved a whiteboard session where I derived logistic regression under the mildly judgmental stare of three engineers, a product case where I had to improvise strong opinions about churn, and a behavioral round where I repeated “cross-functional collaboration” so many times that I briefly wondered if I was still speaking English.
