      Lingerie Sales Department Interview

      6 Sept 2012
      Anonymous employee
      Tacoma, WA
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Nordstrom (Tacoma, WA) in Aug 2012

      Interview

After I graduated from UW Seattle in June, I kept applying for Nordstrom. Finally in the beginning of August I completed an application for BP Sales department and their Cosmetics Department. A week or two later, I received an e-mail from HR having me schedule an appointment for both. Nordstrom didn't let me schedule both so I had to pick one, I decided to pick BP so I scheduled my appointment for the following week, August 21st. The phone interview was about 10 minutes, she was super nice (I also had done my homework) previously making notes of key words or things that I wanted to mention, just in case I forgot. She ended up wanting me to come in the next day to interview with her. I was so excited! The interview went great! Again thanks to Glassdoor, I did my homework and added extra notes. I was confident, and HR was super friendly and sweet. She asked me what departments would I be interested in and I quickly said BP, but any department would be great to work for. She then arranged the BP department manager to interview with me. She was so nice, energetic and so young! I felt very comfortable throughout the whole interview, we were talking for an hour, the interview went by so fast! She asked about my availability and I told her I couldn't do Saturdays due to my religion and she quickly said that she would totally hire me off the bat, but not working Saturdays for her department COULD be a problem. I was so devastated. She said she would call me back and within 4 days. The next day I decided to drop off a thank you letter because I really did want to work with Nordstrom, I love the company and I would want to move up and work in corporate someday. I dropped it off and she said they were doing a background check and she'll call me later on that day. NO CALL. I was so upset. I e-mailed HR telling her what happened and also thanked her and she told me to wait a week. A week passed: NO CALL. I let a day go by and then I called BP and the department manager was busy. I also e-mailed HR and she said the DM (department manager) had been busy and that she had also gave my resume to the lingerie department. I also received an e-mail from Nordstrom HR asking me to sign a background check form. I was so confused, so I a few days passed, I received a call from Nordstrom! It was the DP for lingerie and she wanted to schedule an interview, I gladly scheduled an appointment for the next day. I called the DM of BP afterwards and finally she picked up and told me all the spots were basically filled but she felt that lingerie had a more flexible schedule and BOOM my phone dropped the call (I have the best luck, right?). So I had bad reception and decided to contact her later, I was just sad that a door of opportunity had closed. I went to my interview the next day and again I had all my notes and this time I actually wrote a lot more questions. The interview went very well, the DM was super sweet and easy to talk to and again found a lot of common interests and events (ex. we're both engaged) so the interview wasn't hard at all. She told me she or her assistant manager would contact me either Friday or Monday. The next day I received a call and voicemail (my luck, again) from the AM. I called and she was in a meeting. After I received a call and it was the BP DM and she was telling me how she was sorry for not calling back sooner and about the dropped call and she said she really liked me and she still had another position but again she reiterated what I said before about the schedule flexibility. She also said she'll keep in touch if the lingerie didn't work out. So there I was even more nervous, but I was so thankful that she would even call back. An hour passed by and I received a call from the AM for lingerie and she said that they wanted to offer me a job! I start in a couple of weeks! I am so excited and what I learned is to be persistent, be honest about your availability and have faith, especially if Nordstrom is a company that you can see yourself working there for a long time. Good luck to everyone else! My story is crazy, I had to post it on here because the glassdoor didn't have any stories really relating to mine.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

Be prepared for questions like: Why Nordstrom? Tell me about yourself. What is good customer service to you? When have you gone above and beyond for a customer? Name a time when you made a goal and achieved it? Why ____ <-- that department?
