The technician interview process focuses on demonstrating skill rather than just talking about it. It can be summarized into four key pillars:
Vetting (Screening): A quick check of your certifications, availability for shifts, and physical requirements (lifting, travel, etc.).
Knowledge Testing: Written or digital assessments covering the "theory" of the job, such as reading blueprints, understanding electrical laws, or networking logic.
The Practical (Hands-on): The most critical stage. You are often put at a workbench or piece of equipment to troubleshoot a "rigged" fault, perform a specific repair, or demonstrate your methodology for isolating a problem.
Safety & Communication: A final check on your ability to follow strict safety protocols (like OSHA or Lockout/Tagout) and your ability to explain technical issues to non-technical customers.
