I was offered a verbal internship position during an in-office interview by the founder. I confirm with the founder and another employee present that I will receive a formal, written offer detailing schedule, duration, and other logistics and they say they will send that information over.
Two weeks pass and I hear nothing back, and I assume I was ghosted. A completely different employee (neither of who interviewed me) then messages me on Indeed asking me if I could start that week. At this point, I have had no contact with the founder or other interviewer I met at the office. I have no email or phone number and am communicating through Indeed messaging only. I ask for a formal, written offer letter detailing compensation, duration, etc., and the employee I'm messaging with on Indeed says to speak with the founder when I go in and couldn't provide me any logistics about this opportunity.
So, on my first day at the office, the founder isn't there. Two employees were, and they didn't even know the founder wasn't coming into the office that day because she didn't tell them. So, I realize there's ZERO COMMUNICATION between the employee messaging me on Indeed, the founder, and the employees in the office that day. One of the employees has to call the founder and ask what is going on and essentially ask what to do with me, since she had no idea I was coming in that day.
I left after an hour, learning that the internship is completely unpaid, I would have to pay for visitor parking each time, and, ultimately, realizing my time (including two hours of traffic) was completely disrespected.
