      Python Backend Engineer Interview

      27 May 2021
      Anonymous interview candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Mendix in Apr 2021

      Interview

I got contacted with HR first. The person was friendly. I had an hour meeting with the lead of the Cloud Team. The lead has asked me some questions about my background, my motivation, and the tools I used. Until this point, the process was straightforward and pleasant. In the second stage, I received a task that is told that it could be finished within 1-2 hours but it took me about ~5 hours. I could make the task work and send it back with a limited scope (without tests and with no specific optimizations - but I wrote them down as improvement points); however, I wasn't selected further because my solution wasn't efficient and there were no tests. There was some feedback but was a bit short. - The assignment is overly complex and the expectations set quite high. + You can learn some new stuff from the assignment they sent but it can also be overwhelming for some.
