I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Macy's (New York, NY) in Nov 2014
Interview
Applied online and Macy's responded within Short Retail Math assessment for me to take. Had a phone interview which was very brief and the interviewer spoke really fast without responding much. The second round interview was a Skype interview with a buyer. The third round interview was in NY at headquarters which consisted of: a retail math assessment (very easy if you've had previous experience in retail), a group project, and two personal interviews one with an HR rep and one with a buyer where you drive a business conversation.
Aside from the interviews they spent a night giving presentations on their business driving strategies. I wish they would have focused less on their business driving strategies and more on the culture of Macy's and letting us see where we would be working. All retailers have the same or similar business driving strategies, so they should focus less on this. What sets apart a retailer their cooperate culture and I didn't get a good feeling of what that is like at Macy's.
The interview process was lengthy but very conversational. I think there were 3-5 rounds. There was also a technical interview for your specific function that you took online in a closed browser.
It was easy. Just be yourself and don’t overthink it. First was a 15 min screening call over the phone. Then a 45 min zoom call with another individual. Questions related to past experience and how you deal with certain situations.
There were 3 rounds. The first is just an hr screening. You then have to take 2 exams for the second round. After the exams there is one final round. The process was very straightforward.
