What a..... strange process.
I met 2 of the recruiters at an campus career fair and got along well with them. They passed my resume along and set me up for a phone interview with a member of the finance team a week later. It went well, and I was invited to the on-site interview day in Columbus, OH.
The entire interview and travel process entirely exceeded my expectations. Arrangements are made through the corporate travel agents, and everything from the flight to the hotel to the food and intra-city transportation were all incredible.
The interview itself was good as well–it was a half day ordeal, with a nice breakfast, company introduction, 2 1-on-2 interviews,, and a 30-minute Excel test and P&L analysis. There was a company presentation in the end and we were given the chance to meet with past and current interns and members of the staff. Everyone was super nice, though it felt stiffly / uncomfortably professional at times (ie: they had special members of HR designated to walk you around the office between interviews, holding your things when you went to the bathroom / grabbed water; everything adhered to a strict agenda and all 300 people in the office were involved in this process & given a time sheet for when and where each interviewee had to be at a certain location). Additionally, while the interviewers were all nice and questions were almost purely behavioral, I was slightly taken aback when details such as "what's your favorite store to shop at" and "favorite college memory" were scribbled down with the same ferociousness as the standard "strengths / weaknesses" behaviorals.
Regardless, it was a well organized and professional process and I left very impressed. The thing I wasn't as impressed with, though, was that I'd been in close contact with the recruiters for nearly a month at this point, and for a month after (we were discussing the logistics for another position) they went out of there way to email me, saying I should look forward to hearing back. A month later, nothing. I emailed them and never got a response. The recruiter I'd been communicating with then directed me to a different member of HR and I still never got a clear-cut answer. I emailed this person, and they never got back to me and eventually I just assumed I didn't get the job. In the end, I found it quite interesting that they flew me out and underwent a relatively costly and strenuous interview process to not even follow up after a 3-month long ordeal.....
