A previous contractor stalled them for half a year, didn't show any work or progress on the website and was difficult to get in touch with. The client consistently charged them high prices for wordpress plugins and by the time she finished the entire site didn't even work. It later turns out she illegally downloaded those plugins and charged them for it and didn't really do much work after about a month or two after viewing the web logs.
Unfortunately there are just too many people who think they are good at something because they build off of someone else's work. The least an employer should do before agreeing to pay someone thousands of dollars is to test them.
If in a few days you see nothing but a template on a wordpress blog then you have been fooled, it takes no less then 30 minutes to install wordpress and put up a theme.
