      Anonymous interview candidate
      London, England
      Declined offer
      Neutral experience
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Gensler (London, England) in Jun 2022

      Interview

I was interviewed by two people (both Studio Directors) over the course of an hour. They started by introducing themselves, which led to a very inviting and enjoyable discussion. Both were very open about answering questions and talking about their current projects and project needs.

      Interview

very ambiguious. little clarity on the role and scope of work. allied aspects are discussed more than core work areas. painstakingly long and delirious process. you are passing through different talent acquisition partners before speaking to the main team.

      Design Manager Interview

      Application

I applied through other source. I interviewed at Gensler

      Interview

Pattern of keen interest followed by ghosting. Had initial discussions with one office, then asked by recruiting to apply for a specific position. More interviews with other members of the team. Was provided an outline of compensation and there seemed to be a real eagerness to move forward. After some lapse in time, recruiting reiterated their interest and said they would follow up with next steps. A month goes by - no word. I follow up. Recruiting responds they have not made a decision and thanks me for my patience. Another month and a half goes by and no further word. I email to follow up. It's been over three weeks and no response. The job has been posted, removed and re-posted over many months. I also applied separately for the same role in another city’s office. Was soon contacted by talent acquisition to arrange an interview. Again, interview seemed to go well; Gensler contact followed up to advise it was down to one other candidate and myself, and that a decision would be made shortly; I would be contacted likely within the next few days. Several weeks have now gone by and no response, not even to my follow-up email. I am very conscientious and courteous: I reply promptly; I write thank you emails to those I interview with and those who set up the interview. I am highly qualified, with the years and very specific type of experience required. I find it pretty poor-mannered to, as a potential employer, express concrete interest, discuss next steps, etc, and then not even show the basic courtesy of a simple, brief response to a follow-up email. Again, two offices, same experience. This suggests something endemic to Gensler’s culture. Look, I get it, this is the way the world is now, everything is transactional. But this is a bad direction to be headed in and I really do not think it is too much to ask to be treated with the bare minimum of respect and consideration. If you are a company who wants to set yourself apart and represent meaningful core values, Gensler’s approach is definitely not how you do it.
