      Copywriter Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at FrontRunner (Simi Valley, CA) in Mar 2017

      Interview

I was super excited for the opportunity to interview with this brand because I've been wanting to work for an adventure/outdoor sports company- working for something that aligns with my passion of outdoor sports would be a dream come true. My first contact with one of the workers I thought went really well. He gave me a tour of the warehouse, and we had a great conversation, and felt it was a good start to the interview process. Later, I met with the interview crew- they all seemed very nice, easy and pleasant to speak with. I really did feel I was best equipped for this job- as I'd been doing it for 6 years, and writing is also my strongest creative forte. I felt things were going well, until the main interviewer kept talking about how he had been doing the writing for the website, and he "didn't believe a female could quite capture the brand voice to be an effective copywriter." It honestly took me a few seconds to realize what he just said. I retorted that I am more than comfortable, flexible and adaptable to writing to different voice, and I had the experience in writing for scientific, technical, and lifestyle copy for other brands. Nevertheless, I still walked out decently confident. A couple days later, I followed up via email... but never heard anything back, not even a thank you, or a "we regret to inform you", just nothing-- which is the name of the game, I guess. But, needless to say, I guess I should've known at the sexist comment... what a terrible mentality to have.
