      I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Flowlink Environmental in Apr 2023

      Interview

      Arranged a phone call which was termed as an “interview”. After this phone call I was informed that this actually wasn’t the interview but an initial screening process and that people would be invited in for an in person interview if they were successful. Below average pay for experience level, have to own a car and use personal vehicle to get to sites (only compensated as per the Employment Canada guidelines, I think it’s around $0.25 per km), and no ability to negotiate base salary or rate. After I was told this and tried to negotiate salary, I was told that maybe I’d be better suited to a bigger company and didn’t continue with the interview process.

      Thank you for your feedback. We’re sorry your experience left you with this impression. We would like to respectfully clarify a few points. The initial phone conversation was an early screening step in our hiring process before deciding who to invite for an in-person interview. Initial phone screenings are intended to assess mutual fit and determine next steps in the process, rather than serve as the stage for negotiating compensation. Mileage reimbursement was clearly communicated in writing as following CRA standard rates, which in 2023 were $0.68/km for the first 5,000 km and $0.62/km thereafter. Since 2023, our hiring process has evolved into a more structured multi-step process, with compensation, role expectations, and interview stages discussed as clearly as possible throughout. While we understand that not every candidate will feel aligned with our process, we remain committed to respectful and transparent communication.
