      Marketing Role Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at DoorDash

      Interview

I applied for a role with the company and was reached out to by one of their recruiters a few weeks later. Conversation went fairly smoothly. The recruiter reiterated several times how strong my background was for the role, and how solid of a match it was. As we were ending the conversation, the recruiter mentioned there would be a take-home project for more vetting of the candidates. I asked how long the project would be. Approximately 2 hours of work, according to the recruiter. I then asked, what is the scope of the project? She responded that it’s putting together a marketing strategy. I asked if I would be compensated for the work. She told me DoorDash would not be compensating for the 2+ hours of work. So, let me get this straight. You want me to do two hours of work putting together a marketing strategy that your team may end up utilizing, and do the work for free? I told the recruiter to go ahead and send me the take-home project. I would take a look at it, consider it, and circle back. The following morning I get an email stating the following: "I wanted to let you know that I have reviewed your resume and our phone call with our hiring manager, and while you do have a solid background, we don't feel that it is a perfect fit for the position.” What a joke. The DoorDash HR team should be nothing short of embarrassed and ashamed. And as I’m now reading the terrible experiences other candidates have had with DoorDash, apparently their team has zero intention of fixing their atrocity of an HR team and hiring process. I’ve worked at some of the top companies in Silicon Valley and in the marketing world. I have never been asked to do two hours of work for zero compensation. What a ridiculous notion. Big pass. Big turn off. No thanks.
