I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Cato (Charlotte, NC) in Nov 2015
Interview
First I had a phone interview with their hiring team. She gave me helpful hints, like to make sure that I go visit a store from all divisions I was interviewing with. Then I had to come in interview on a Friday with 8 different people. I started at 8 AM and did not finish until 4:30 PM. My brain felt like mush at the end. Then I got a phone call from the HR recruiter where she offered me the position, but after hearing the salary/pay scale, blatantly lied to me in order to accept after I already turned the position down.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Out of all the buyers I interviewed with, which buyer would I like to work for and why?
I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Cato (Charlotte, NC) in Feb 2022
Interview
Very long - some of the employees were very cold. Got asked the same questions over and over with no breaks for three hours. No one really gave you the time of day or acted like they cared
One phone interview and then multiple rounds of in-person interviews and very high level questions. Nothing specific to my previous schooling. I didn't receive a call back after the interview, only a letter in the mailer telling me I didn't get the position.

Question 1
Asked general questions. Nothing in depth. The interviewers didn't seem very interested in my responses.
I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Cato (Charlotte, NC) in Aug 2017
Interview
I interviewed at CATO's corporate office for an assistant buyer position. I saw a posting online and emailed my resume in and received an email the next day about setting up a phone interview. I completed the phone interview the next day, and a couple of days later was emailed again about setting up an in person interview. The interview was a week later, and involved a personality online test plus meeting with four people. I felt really good about my interview, and was assured I would hear back, but never was. All of my inquiry emails were ignored which is extremely unprofessional in my opinion. I feel like the extensive interview process was just a big waste of time.
