I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Beyond Co (Newmarket, Suffolk, East of England, England) in Sept 2024
Interview
I recently applied for a technical position and completed the company's DevSupport Technical Exercise. The test involved three tasks: working with an API, troubleshooting a database, and debugging code.
After submitting the test, I was contacted by the company, rather than receiving an email, and they informed me that I had done everything correctly. The person who spoke with me mentioned that I hadn’t submitted a report about what I did with the tests, but according to the questionnaire, it did not ask for such a report. However, she said it wasn’t an issue at all and this wasn’t a negative remark on my test. Then she informed me that they had decided not to move forward with my application for undisclosed reasons.
While I appreciate the transparency about my technical performance and the quick communication, I am left disappointed by the lack of clarity regarding the hiring decision. It would have been helpful to understand if there were other factors, such as cultural fit or internal changes. Additionally, if the company was expecting the test to be completed in a different way or with a specific approach in mind, it would have been beneficial to provide some hints or guidance about what they were looking for in the questionnaire document. This would help candidates better align their solutions with the company’s expectations.
Overall, my experience with the test and communication was professional, but the lack of detailed feedback and transparency leaves room for improvement in how they handle candidate expectations. Also, the time I invested in developing and replying to their questions was valuable. I would like to let future applicants know that this is what happened to me, even though I didn’t fail their test "as they said in their own words." You may still get rejected for undisclosed reasons. To me, this feels like discrimination. Thank you.
