Submitted CV via company website. HR coordinator got back within 2 wks to arrange a 1st round face to face with the hiring manager. We had such a nice time chatting, it lasted 1h 45 min! She asked me about my professional background, strengths and weaknesses, nothing out of the ordinary. I was asked for writing samples and a character referee. A week later HR called me for a 2nd round. I was travelling but they were nice enough to wait 2 weeks for me to get back! This time it was with the hiring manager, office head, and HR manager. Took 1 hr and mostly it was the office head going through my CV, questions were the usual stuff and some of it recapped what was asked in the 1st round. Very positive and laid back vibes, and I really liked them. Then it was a 1 hr written assignment comprising 2 parts - a factsheet and an event proposal. The hiring manager sat down with me for 30 mins after that to guide me through any lingering doubts I had about the role. She was very patient, and placed a lot of emphasis on understanding how I would fit the role, whether I would enjoy it long-term, is it in line with my career objectives, etc. It was pretty remarkable the lengths she went through to ensure I was happy before taking the plunge, as she wanted to ensure whoever takes it up is a stayer. After consulting my referee, she was positive about extending an offer, but still unsure about how happy I would be in the role. She liked me very much as a person, and so did I, but the role did not quite fit my aspirations. We met for an informal coffee to talk for 1 hr, where she took the time to show me the department's past work and gave me an office tour to show me what a day in the life of Arup would look like. I was given another 1 wk to consider. We chatted again for 1 hr over the phone, where I verbally accepted the role, but my dream job offer appeared a day later, so I turned Arup down eventually. The manager was super nice about it though, and we remain friends.
