      Manager Trainee Interview

      19 Aug 2012
      Anonymous interview candidate
      Mount Pleasant, MI
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at ALDI (Mount Pleasant, MI) in Jul 2012

      Interview

There was an initial job fair at a local chain hotel and conference center where the only questions asked where if you read the post description and if you had any questions. The folks working the table accepting applications were all quite young - early twenties - and very friendly. No resumed were being taken. There was a group of young district managers in the foyer getting ready to go to lunch. They were not very friendly and seemed quite bored by the whole affair. I was called that evening for a second.interview scheduled for 915 am the following Tuesday. Upon arrival there was no one greeting potential hires or instructing where to go. I arrived 10 minutes early and waited almost 40 minutes for my interview. Thirty minutes behind so early in the process did not bode well for those with later times. Interviews where being conducted in three rooms - two for potential cashiers and shift managers and one for store managers. I interviewed with the current district manager and another young gentleman. The current district manager was a women who I overheard the previous day looking at the whole affair with disdain. The interview started with a plea to be as completely truthful as possible - that no one is perfect. I was instructed to give a brief run down of my employment history and them asked a few questions such as naming an obstacle I encountered in my job history and how I overcame it and to name what my biggest flaw is. The guy running the interview was really nice and.completely engaged in the conversation. The woman, who I was to assume would be the potential boss, was kind of fake. She tried to be engaging but seemed distracted by something behind me and kept looking at her watch. I think she was disappointed.to be running so obviously behind. She also had a terrible handshake. I submitted my resume and cover letter at this time.

      Question 1

I hate the question of naming your biggest flaw. No one wants to here the truth and any other answer sounds like you're pandering to the interviewer.

They want you to stand in front of a mirror so that they can evaluate you before the interview. Then you are asked a series of questions about what you think the position is by the district manager. Afterwards a store manager takes you around the store and is especially interested in your reaction to being in the freezer.
