      Store Assistant Interview

      17 Aug 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Waurn Ponds
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at ALDI (Waurn Ponds) in Aug 2016

      Interview

Applied online, and this seemed to be the longest process. Received an email approximately 3 weeks later inviting me to a group interview. The group interview consisted of about 11 other applicants and we sat around the table and had to go around in th group and provide our name, our previous experience, a highlight of our working life and also a lowlife, we were then asked to provide something quirky about ourself that isn't on our resume. After the initial introduction we were asked to write down the minimum hours we would like to work. The regional manager then proceeded to ask the group if we knew anything about Aldi, I suggest doing some research, there is a lot of information provided on Aldi's website in their about Aldi section. We then had to sit a short maths test where the Regional Manager asked us 5 questions regarding change (if a customers purchase comes to $19.95 and they hand you $50 how much change do you hand back etc..) This was followed by the group picking questions out of a bowl (all different) about store situations and we had to write down and also provide our answer to the group. My question was "An employee is rude to a customer, what do you do?" We were then grouped up in three's and handed 5 different cards (cleanliness, product quality etc..) and had to work as a group to place these items in order of importance. There is no right answer, the answers are judged off your explanation and your way of thinking, every item is of importance, they want to know in depth why you chose that order as a group and want to see you work together. All in all the group process was a good experience and I received a call back 2 days later asking to come in for a tour of the store and to meet the store manager, I believe this is followed by another interview if you get past the second stage. The regional manager did well to calm everyone's nerves and get to know us. Other than that the regional manager provided us in depth information about Aldi and explained the wage, and how the store works. Make sure to research off the Aldi website and you will cruise through this process. I will also note that at the start of the interview the regional manager told us that because items like bands and apples do not have barcodes, you are required to remember there number off a list so when you put them through the register you just hit the number and its processed, he used two items (apples and bananas) as examples and mentioned their codes, at the end of the interview he asked us if we remembered, to write them down in the piece of paper. This was a memory test. Awaiting to see if I make it through the next process to a third interview.

      Question 1

What do you know about Aldi? What's a highlight/lowlight of your working experience? What's something quirky about yourself that isn't on your resume? Basic mathematical questions? An employee is rude to a customer, what do you do? What is the code for bananas and apples?

      Interview

Started as a group where we were educated on the history and benefits about working at ALDI, and were asked what we think working at ALDI is like. Seemed like a good company with fair pay. The individual interview itself only asked availability.
