What is the salary like at Medtronic?

      Medtronic reviews

Good work-life balance but limited growth opportunities

      Clinical consultant ii
      Current employee
      Raleigh, NC
      Recommend
      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Good work life balance, no micromanagement, decent pay and benefits for the job at hand, build rewarding relationships

      Cons

Continuing to learn and being involved in newer and more advanced training is very limited, job can get very boring after a while, very hard to grow let alone get increased compensation after years of being an employee. The job sometimes feels very stagnant. You stop learning after a while.

      Business outlook

      Pros

Hardworking team members and mostly willing to help out when you need it (if they like you). Decent benefits if you're FT.

      Cons

Difficult to promote from contract to FT. Middle and upper management does not know how to motivate teams. Rather than celebrating big accomplishments, management takes all the credit and quickly turns around and demands another tight deadline. Frequently had to put out fires at the last minute, only to get reprimanded for things that were outside of our control. While benefits are decent, salaries are lower than expected for cost of living, and very little opportunities for promotions despite long hours and going above and beyond to meet deadlines (seen across all departments). Work life balance was essentially non-existent in manufacturing, with expectations that you are reachable 7 days a week outside of work hours. More than twice I had to call workers asking them to drive 1+ hr back from their homes, after ending their shift, to come perform tasks to meet urgent deadlines, because management did not hire and train enough team members. Upper management is a boys club and I have known multiple people who were let go after sounding alarms at measures that cut corners just to meet deadlines. Prior to starting at Medtronic Diabetes, I knew they had a questionable reputation. Only after working there did I see just how bad the culture is; suffice to say I would not go back.

Did away with work from home inspite of protests

      Product support representative v

      CEO approval
      Business outlook

      Pros

Pay was really good, had (operative word) work from home opportunity, colleagues usually were great, benefits, retirement plan

      Cons

Several members of management not on the same page, work from home opportunities were removed even though It is statistically cheaper to keep employees working from home Instead of in a brick facility. Employees from the United States were made to go back to work from office or to be let go while our counterparts in the Philippines were still remote workers and remain to this day, management is backward thinking, Supervisors have meetings to get employees to quit rather than be fired so that attrition can remain low cost.
