It caused £50,000 worth of damage at the substation, resulting in around 1800 homes being without power for up to an hour, while some 85 properties – including a care home – were without power for almost nine hours.
The project is part of a multi-million-pound investment to strengthen the network in Lanarkshire. It will involve the replacement of ageing equipment as well and will improve drainage in the area.
Now, the new electric vehicles are offering lifeline services to people across the West Coast including vital transport for hospital patients and NHS staff who need to access Stobhill Hospital, as well as providing support for patient and non-patient transport at Hairmyres Hospital. The charity is also assisting NHS Lanarkshire with its transport co-ordination through its Transport Hub.
It is the third green energy deal since March for the Iberdrola Group. Last week the company acquired the French renewable energy firm Aalto Power for €100 million. This deal secured 118MW of operational onshore wind power in France and a project portfolio of 636MW in various stages of development. In March, Iberdrola also increased its stake in the €2.4 billion Saint-Brieuc offshore wind farm in France, from 70% to 100%, which will have a capacity of 496MW.
