Want a fun fact about Northern Trust? When Labor Day was Moving Day On Sept. 1, 1906 (Labor Day in the United States), Northern Trust moved into its new banking house at 50 S. LaSalle St. in Chicago, our global headquarters today. The four-story building, vaults, and safe deposit facilities were more extensive than needed at the time—built with growth in mind.
Greater is … fitting in because of your differences. Last Friday, 26th August, our team in Australia celebrated #WearItPurple Day. This celebration helps to further awareness on the issues our young LGBTQ+ community face on a daily basis. One of the highlights of the event, organized by our Northern Trust Pride Business Resource Council (BRC), was an awareness session that covers the intersectionality of LGBTQ+ and indigenous people, working families, as well as women. What made the event even more meaningful was a cash donation of AUD 5000, on behalf of The Northern Trust Philanthropic Committee, and additional local fundraising to Minus18, an organisation that aims to improve the health and wellbeing of, and provide a safe environment for, LGBTQ+ youth.
We are at the end of the summer and that means we say goodbye to our summer interns who joined our global offices over the past few months. They have left their mark on us, and we would like to take this final opportunity to say thank you to them all. We would also like to wish them the very best of luck as many of them head back to their final year in college. Here’s a handful of final day pics from our interns in Tempe, Chicago and Limerick.
Members from our Wealth Management Technology team proudly partnered with The Night Ministry and packed 400 hygiene kits to be distributed to those experiencing homelessness in Chicago. #NTGivesBack
We continue to support the U.K. initiative 10000 Black Interns. We believe in the power of diversity and are committed to young minds that make an impact to our organization and the industry as a whole. This summer the group of 8 interns have successfully taken up roles within asset management, capital markets, global fund services and our institutional investor group within our London office. “We are proud to participate in this program and its our second year of supporting its success. We put together a thoughtful experience and are pleased to say that the first year successfully yielded a hire in the portfolio management team.” Marie Dzanis CIMA - Head of Asset Management EMEA

Yesterday we celebrated a very happy National Intern Day with a great group of current interns. From the whole organization, we want to thank them for all their hard work this summer. We appreciate our interns every day, but yesterday we got to celebrate them! In Chicago, our interns created literacy kits for United Way of Metro Chicago while our interns in Tempe and our wealth management offices, got together virtually to create cards of encouragement for Chicago-based Cardz For Kidz.

Today we hosted the inaugural Access Northern Trust Exposition. We welcomed year 11-13 students (a combination of Northern Trust employees' children and young people from The Access Project) to our London office to learn more about the variety of career paths on offer in the financial services sector. Students were able to connect with employees from all levels and departments to develop a better understanding of roles and day-to-day responsibilities, as well as hear from senior leaders on how they started and navigated their own professional careers. "We are really proud to create an opportunity for students of all backgrounds to increase their knowledge of financial services. It was a great event which gave the students space to interact with our business experts from across the firm and show the diversity of opportunities that it presents." Alison Pain. Chief Technology Officer EMEA
