Pros

I highly recommend not working here, even if you are trying to gain project management experience, You will not learn anything, be paid very little for the amount of work that is expected of you and the company culture is very very toxic.

Cons

Awful cokmpany culture Expected to work very late into the evening, no appreciattion from senior manager or middleweight management, bullying culture No diversity within teams Very unwelcoming teams, very clique-y No training provided Easily the worst company I have ever worked for. I have never had any problems at a place of work before my experience here. Very toxic environment, Zero career development I highly recommend not working here - it is a very toxic environment, even HR were like bullies when my team tried to speak with them about mental health issues due to workload. Everyone in the team had break downs and cried due to the poor working standards.

We are very sorry to hear about your experience. This is not what we strive for and does not reflect the direction of the business, nor the feedback we generally receive from our colleagues. As VSI has continued to expand, we are pleased to have seen even more team members promoted and taking on new challenges in recent months. We are extremely happy to see that such a large number of our team are seeing career progression and growth with VSI. We have also recently made further improvements to our performance management and objective setting processes and we have invested in a wide range of online business and technical courses for our entire London team, to complement and build on the existing internal training we provide. These improvements are enabling even more opportunities to gain new knowledge and skills, and providing additional opportunities for career growth across the team. We are pleased to be seeing a positive and sustained recovery in our industry and we are recruiting for several new roles to grow capacity and ease pressure in particular areas of the business. We are happy to be welcoming new joiners every week in various teams across the business. We of course take the mental health of our team very seriously, and in addition to the above points we offer an Employee Assistance Programme and Private Health Insurance with enhanced mental health cover, which together offer phone and face to face or online counselling to support with some of the challenges we can all face whether at work or in our own lives – especially during this difficult time. We actively encourage anyone in our team who is struggling with their mental health to talk to us and make use of these resources to get the support they need.

Pros

Convenient location Opportunity to work with some big broadcasters Great people from all around the world

Cons

Most project managers have joined VSI straight out of university. They are underpaid, overlooked, overworked but don’t know any better as this is their first job. Anyone joining VSI from another company do not last and are quick to leave. Constant turnover of senior management. This place is a circus, management seems constantly under pressure and as a result passes on the stress to their team. They seem to be bullied by the Managing Director who does not hesitate to shout or embarrass any of them in front of their team. She can be seen/heard shouting and be aggressive towards them. On numerous occasions staff would have caught some of them crying in a corner. She creates a tense environment where everyone competes and stabs each other’s in the back and is the number one reason for the high turnaround of staff. Her lack of trust (or confidence) and understanding of the localisation industry means she wants to be informed and involved in anything which brings constant delays to the job and loss of opportunities. She relies on an incompetent and cocky Sales team who has very little knowledge of languages and only think about their target without taking into consideration the actual human effort involved. They do not realise that they could not do their job without the PMs and should show a minimum of gratitude and respect. Having said that, the latest additions to this team over the last year seem to be different than the others, so let’s be optimistic and hope the others (who should have left the company long ago!) will learn from them... Project Managers are constantly being blamed for allocating too many hours to a job so end up lying on their timesheets to don’t get into trouble. Every month PMs are being questioned about their timesheet and utilisation. They are being blamed for not working enough or not being efficient enough even if most of them arrive early, skip their lunch and leave the office late everyday. Technology is dated and well behind competition, a lot of promises but every single initiative is cancelled as too many people get involved. HR has a very high staff turnaround and seems to be working for the MD rather than the people. Benefits are poor and very limited. Company meetings done after hours on a Friday evening.

Feedback is important to us and we strive to encourage a culture of open communication across our business where employees feel valued, respected and heard. As such, we have a number of internal channels, be it anonymous or direct, to enable our employees to provide any constructive feedback or raise any concerns that they may have. The wellbeing of our staff is a top priority as well as our commitment to creating a transparent and collaborative environment for all our employees. Whilst your line manager is typically your first point of call, should you wish to raise any concerns, our HR team is always available for confidential dialogues. Maintaining a work-life balance is important to us. The use of timesheets is a standard practice for any company operating in the service sector and the purpose of these is to enable us to monitor capacity and utilisation, and to understand the areas where we need to allocate resources. To support the growing business demands we have also been recruiting for additional headcount throughout the year as well as promoting opportunities for internal progression. As an independent review platform, Glassdoor has a firm policy whereby companies cannot alter or remove reviews, something of which we fully respect.

Pros

Only reason is to try to gain experience as best you can.

Cons

Management is extremely unprofessional. I’ve witnessed management making sexual comments about my coworkers body. Management can also never seem to keep a cool head, which in my opinion is crucial for this type of position over a department. Be prepared to be unfairly written up and all the evidence that you did the right thing such as session file backups to be deleted suspiciously. It seems that the company is too greedy and takes on projects they physically cannot handle, and instead shove as many people into one room as possible in the midst of a pandemic. Also as a result of that, in depth training is scarily rare. There is simply no time! Also if you are 10 minutes too prompt for your shift, you will get fired. So take it from me, its not a good company to work for at all.

Feedback is very important to us, and we strive to encourage a culture of open communication across our business where employees feel valued, respected and heard. As such, we have several internal channels, be it anonymous or direct, to enable our employees to provide any constructive feedback or raise any concerns that they may have. If you would like to discuss the points you have raised within this review further – which would remain confidential to our HR department, please contact hr@vsi.tv. As an industry, we are required to show great flexibility and agility within our work approach, to successfully meet the various needs of different clients and project types. Therefore, we often adapt our workflows to meet specific project requirements or deliverables to provide the best possible experience for our clients. In the rare but unfortunate situation when we are faced with having to let an employee go, we first go through a performance improvement plan with the individual. This is specifically designed to support in their develop, to address any challenges they are experiencing and to hopefully overcome these collectively so that they can become more successful in the role going forward. Throughout the course of the pandemic, we have implemented stringent Covid-19 protocols to protect our staff and external talent that were required to attend our facilities across the Group, and we continue to take this incredibly seriously. People will always remain at the heart of our business, and we do our best to invest in our teams and ensure their workplace safety and satisfaction.
