Pros

Loved working here, great team, great members, lots of training and chances to move up. I worked here when I was at uni and continued to work here part time for over 10 years whilst pursuing my teaching career. I loved every minute. If the pay met my teachers salary I would give up teaching and go back in a heart beat.

Cons

Pay didn’t progress over time. But it was a good starting wage for someone straight out of uni.

Pros

Environment: One positive aspect is the camaraderie among staff. The team is friendly, and everyone understands the struggle, as we’re all just trying to get by. This support from coworkers is the only redeeming part of working here.

Cons

My experience working for Virgin Active South Africa has been overwhelmingly negative. Salary and Benefits: The salary is simply unlivable, especially considering the cost of living. It’s disappointing to work long hours for compensation that doesn’t match the level of effort and dedication required. There’s no clear path for salary improvement, making it feel as though hard work isn’t valued. Head Office Support: The treatment from head office has been disheartening. There’s little to no support for staff, and requests for assistance are often dismissed or ignored. Unfortunately, the management team at head office comes across as arrogant and detached, with little understanding or concern for the challenges we face on the ground. Workload and Expectations: The expectations are unreasonable for the compensation provided. The demands placed on staff are high, yet the resources and support to meet these expectations are lacking. It’s as if head office is blind to the real conditions and struggles that their employees deal with daily. Team Environment: One positive aspect is the camaraderie among staff. The team is friendly, and everyone understands the struggle, as we’re all just trying to get by. This support from coworkers is the only redeeming part of working here. Overall Impression: While I appreciate my fellow staff, the experience as a whole is frustrating and disappointing. It’s hard to stay motivated in an environment where employees are undervalued, underpaid, and unsupported. I would not recommend this position to anyone looking for fair compensation, support, or a respectful work environment.
