Pros

- Flexibility (work/life balance) - Sense of community (communal gathering space for weekly lunches and events) - Exciting science (first mRNA in human clinical trial) - Transparency from management (regular all-company updates) - Seasoned management (they know what they're doing!) - Public company (IPO 2018 TBIO) - Out of the box approach from HR - Teaching atmosphere - Employee retention level is unmatched

Cons

HQ located outside of Kendall Square which is tough for some but great for others who live in the burbs.

Pros

- The people: I really enjoy being around my co-workers. Everyone is approachable, excited about our science/our mission, and collaborative - Leadership: Our management team just gets it and cares about employees (One of our values is people first and I can really say we mean it) - Balance: We're all busy, lots going on - but there is definitely flexibility and it is not the sort of place where you feel like you need to "prove yourself" by working crazy hours and burning yourself out. We value working smart! - Summer hours: We work longer days Mon-Thurs and wrap up at noon on Fridays between memorial day and labor day, which is a great perk. - Great benefits: The best benefits I've ever had - company covers 90% of the medical premium and 100% of the deductible which is amazing. Also generous tuition reimbursement and a loan repayment assistance programs. - Fun culture: Often find people having a beer in the cafeteria after work on Thursdays and Fridays. We also have weekly team lunches, monthly happy hours, and annual outings at the Red Sox and Kimball Farms. And weekly running club!

Cons

-Commute: Lots of us have long commutes so that is the downside of being out in the suburbs. Not easily accessible by the red line - you have to take a shuttle to alewife. - Can be hard to unplug: We are super fast paced - started our first clinical trial last year, went public, etc. so there is a lot going on and it can be hard to unplug/take a true vacation with no work. There isn't pressure to be online constantly, but it can be hard to step away from the emails!

Demanding Work Schedules

Business outlook

Pros

New technology, diverse responsibilities, multiple programs

Cons

Translate Bio has an interesting platform that has the potential to address rare diseases. The company has grown over the last six years and is now at well over 100 employees. Benefits are average, by industry standards, with stock options (not grants). Mediocre healthcare choices with high co-pays for common medications. Salaries are about average with disappointing bonuses given the extremely long hours (80+ per week) and stressful work environment. The company has very generous and flexible vacation benefits provided you keep up with your email, attend meetings, and complete assigned action items on time. Standard vacation policy but in many groups these hours cannot be claimed and the company has no option to sell back unused time. Company shut-down twice a year but many people are required to work. Time off can be carried over to the following year but that too often goes unused due to ‘mission critical’ activities. Aggressive manufacturing schedules include holidays, evenings, and weekends. There is an enormous amount work and a desperate lack of resources. Project timelines are unrealistic leading to contentious meetings with suppliers and employees. Management is seemingly oblivious to workloads and the need for a reasonable work-life balance.
