Pros

- It’s actually pretty decent money if you put the work in. - The support we get from the people who are the head of the company is AMAZING. Supe response (and quick to respond!), always supportive, answers any and all questions, friendly, tries to get everyone to engage by asking ice breakers, and acknowledges our positive reviews from clients. - You get to choose which resumes you want to do off of a resume board instead of resumes being assigned to you. - No set schedule. You get to work on your own time and you choose your hours - No micromanaging - Everyone (CEO all the way down to my peers) is so friendly

Cons

- The biggest elephant in the room is that not every client pays!! And it’s SO frustrating. You put in all this labor with nothing to show for it. Unless you’re a senior writer. - For the more extensive resumes (pages on pages with a ton of information on them) the amount of hours you put in for resume, you’re not getting much money if you break it up into hourly pay. - Seems like not a lot of people are senior writers. Those services don’t get picked up as quickly as the ones non-senior writers do. So sometimes there’s no jobs for non-senior writers but a ton of jobs just sitting around for the senior writers to pick up.

Pros

- Great leadership and management - people are personable, despite writers being freelance and based all over the world. Working with and for nice people counts for so much - easy to manage your own work load - supportive with tricky customers

Cons

- hard to sort out tech issues when there's a time difference, although they are really responsive once the work day is aligned - number of orders has dropped off dramatically, partly I imagine due the rise of AI - frustrating when you do the work and clients simply don't pay - although senior writers still get some compensation, which has helped

Pros

Completely flexible in terms of workload; enough demand that this could be a full time job if you are that way inclined. Continues to improve it's employee value proposition by increasing earning potential (introduction of tips, expedited orders & new order types) The ownership / admin staff are very responsive and quick to solve issues.

Cons

With the pay after 1st draft model, there is a chance to be ghosted without pay after 1st draft. However, follow the process & do good work and this is minimal; circa. 5% for me when I've completed a draft without payment. They also recently introduced a reduced guaranteed payout for Senior Writers in this scenario which was a nice gesture. From a client perspective, there doesn't seem to be any quality control; whenever I receive an order that is reassigned from another writer or has used TopStack before, I'm often surprised at how bad a job the previous writer did. I guess it's luck of the drawer for the client and the pay after model should somewhat mitigate this?
