- no room to grow. Do not expect to be asked what you'd like to do next, or be provided with opportunities to develop new skills.
- incredibly old-school 'cog in a machine' type of work. You will be expected to run the same project admin over and over again.
- you are expected to know your place, and will be admonished if you don't, and told you are reaching above the scope of your role. For instance, you are discouraged to email senior employees directly and have to ask your manager to do so. Some directors are known to be offended that officer-level employees get in touch with them for a work-related query, and have complained to their manager.
- incredibly touchy and cranky senior staff. There is a lot of stress going into a meeting with certain division heads and directors with extreme mood swings, with a high chance of being told off (often passive-agressively) even if you delivered a project successfully.
- the whole organisation has an incredibly outdated structure, with work being checked by your line manager, their line manager, etc. sometimes all the way up and it takes ages to get anything approved. For such a contemporary, so-called forward institution, work processes are antiquated.
- Director is very cold, aloof, and does not care about staff.
- You are a prisoner of your line manager. No one will enquire how you feel about them, expect for a dedicated box in your annual review form. If you do not have much prior work experience, you may find yourself in a toxic and abusive environment. You will absolutely be told that's how things work around here and your worries be dismissed because 'it's just Tate'. I have seen many awful bosses and absolutely zero disciplinary procedures, even for known misconduct.
- I honestly could not in good conscience recommend this place to anyone. Many more issues discussed by colleagues from other departments. Do not let them rob you of your mental health.
