Technical staff are not respected

Pros

Hard to think of any. If you're good at being loud and outspoken (factual optional) and office politics they you will go far. But only until you're not flavour of the month.

Cons

It's a technical company run by a board that has no one technical on it. This means they have no understanding or respect for technology or hold any value for technical staff. Absolutely no one has any respect or trust for the latest CEO Mr Marks.

Thanks for taking the time to leave a review. I'm sorry that your experience of working at Smoothwall wasn't what we would have hoped for our employees. We have been and will continue to work hard to make Smoothwall a great place to work. It is unfortunate that you feel our technical staff are under appreciated. We have great respect for our technical staff and I am pleased to say that we have recently appointed an experienced and forward thinking CTO to the Board of Directors. We wish you all the best for the future.

...was a great place to work... once

Pros

Some of the kindest and smartest people I have ever had the pleasure to work with, much to learn and never a dull moment.

Cons

High turn over of management staff, the most recent change has resulted in a large number of staff leaving (some through their own choice, others not). Some loyal staff members have found themselves unemployed as a direct result of one particular manager and her 'management style' (to the point where it can be proven she lied, yet the new senior management seem not to care).

Nightmare Job Stay Away

Pros

Nothing. Absolutely nothing. I wanted to jump out of the 6th story window every minute I worked there.

Cons

Hands down the worst job I have ever had. Terrible management. Disgusting workplace filled with roaches, mold, filth, and vultures literally pecking at the windows. The workers just tell the CEO what he wants to hear and then laugh behind his back. Everyone in the office wants to quit. They are all looking but only stay because they cannot find anything else. It is a sinking ship. Jump whilst you can!!!

Hello... I think given your review, that it is probably better that you work elsewhere as you were clearly not happy. In that, I wish you the best of luck. For the record, for other readers of this, since my whole life until now I've worked for US businesses (Microsoft, Yammer, Tesla), I'm well aware that the two countries have different cultures, product needs and working practices. This is reflected in our having spent the past several months developing new products that we know will do well in the US specifically - and as a result, we are now closing some of the biggest deals in our history, in competitive tender processes against our direct (US HQ'd) competition. The proof is in the pudding (as we Brits say)! If it is true that one or two people in the team have behaved as you describe, then I would be very disappointed as that's not within our values at all, and unfortunately says something about them, and not about our company - where I get a lot of feedback, constantly (including improvement points, which are the best to receive). Best wishes for the future, I hope you find what you are looking for. Georg
