TOXIC - AVOID AT ALL COSTS

      Pros

Having thought long and hard about this, I genuinely can find nothing positive to say about working at Sepam. I rue the day I set foot in the place.

      Cons

Micro management to such a degree that they get the worst out of their employees. Every single decision has to be run by or approved by the (so called) Chairman. The (so called Chairman) - in truth he behaves and acts nothing like a Chairperson should. He is overbearing, involves himself in everything, dismisses any contrary view, dismisses people (who he has hired) who are experienced experts in their fields telling them that he knows more/is better at their job than they are. The (so called) Chairman’s children occupy various ‘management’ roles in Sepam, but be in no doubt there is but one voice, one sheriff (as he put it himself). They are routinely bullied, undermined, contradicted or dismissed by the (so called) Chairman in front of staff/customers and they in turn treat employees of the company the same. The worst treatment is sadly reserved for the many non-Irish people who have had the misfortune to end up in Sepam. These unfortunate people are made to work longer hours, they routinely have to work on. Saturday and have to endure racist and bigoted comments and put downs.. If you wish to witness negative, abusive and racist comments being made to foreign national employees, take the job at Sepam. No one speaks up, because everyone is afraid of the Chairman. The treatment of student interns on summer placement is also terrible. These are bright, enthusiastic young people experiencing a working environment for the first time and the treatment some received was shocking. From meaningless work assignments to condescension to sexual harassment - yes you read correctly, sexual harassment. Over- promising and under delivering. Every project that Sepam gets involved in ends in dispute. This is not just the typical back and forth over final account that many with experience in the construction industry will be familiar with, this is sometimes having their contract terminated, being taken off the project for failing repeatedly on the job. Sepam has been removed from major projects in a number of different countries including Ireland, UK and Qatar in recent years. These were major projects, some were for major blue chip companies. If the (so called) Chairman could have brought himself to trust the many good people who have joined (and left - they always leave) these disputes, contract terminations and associated litigation could have been avoided. But he knows best, he knows more than you will ever know (he will drone on ad nauseam about how they used to do things in Kents) - he will meddle, override and involve himself in everything. The end result is the same - he gets the worst out of people because he restricts them from doing anything to the point where no one can make a decision or do their job. The (so called) CEO sees herself as a highly intelligent and accomplished international businesswoman - the less said about that the better. She and her siblings went on executive education courses in Harvard Business School (three 3 week units over 2 years). Unfortunately attending a HBS course doesn’t mean someone will have any business acumen, emotional intelligence, empathy or people skills of any kind if they didn’t have them to begin with. No matter how desperate you are for work, please do not take a job with Sepam. You will regret it, your family and friends will regret it too. It truly is a toxic working environment and I would strongly urge anyone who is thinking of taking a job there to do yourself and your family a favour and simply walk away.
