Pros

Upper upper management is making a lot of money without making a product or profit #federalgrant #taxpayerdollars #NIH #SBIR #DOD

Cons

Don’t be fooled by the recent “good” reviews, they were not made by the employees. INDEED, there are other review sites. Fake management “feel good” reviews is just more smoke and mirrors to fool investors .

I came away stronger

Pros

I learned a lot about myself working here, how to stand up for myself and how to value myself. The team is close knit and upper management is terrible or wonderful depending on who it is. But its all disorganized.

Cons

there is a forged in fire mentality that is quite unhealthy for most employees. I came away stronger but I felt beaten down to get there and that is not right. Some upper management is lovely but VP and CEO rule with an iron fist.

Pros

I don't normally write reviews, whether it be good or bad. However, as a former employee, I can say some of these reviews are extremely biased and purely motivated by hate. Sanaria is a small biotech company, with limited funding; as such, things are a bit more hectic and stressful than compared to larger organizations. Management does have many inefficiencies and areas of improvements, esp. in terms of treatment of employees and basic leadership structure. Nevertheless, these issues are not drastically different from any other small biotech companies around. Benefits are average. Co-workers are some of the greatest people I have ever worked with, both professionally and personally. I learned a great deal about different aspects of research and manufacturing.

Cons

Training for upper management.

Pros

Some of the research associates are wonderful colleagues and fabulous people. The company is located in an area relatively rich in biotech companies, which facilitates leaving Sanaria in order to work in a legitimate company that is competently managed by qualified professionals.

Cons

Management operates by finger pointing, blaming, shaming, and humiliating, thereby creating an environment rife with fear and anxiety. Upper managers take advantage of executive impunity to abuse and harass employees. Examples include: an employee who was asked to a manager's private residence on a weekend to assist in preparation of a grant proposal; upon arrival the employee was greeted by the naked manager and invited to join in a hot tub session. In another incident, upper management encouraged female research associates to consume alcohol during a company-wide fishing outing and then took advantage of the situation on board one of the fishing boats to forcefully grab and kiss one of the associates fully on the mouth for several seconds. Sanaria executive management, unable to secure capital from investors, has entered into a compact to support the aims of an autocratic and kleptomaniacal African government in exchange for funds. Sanaria lacks corporate integrity, and management has demonstrated its lack of competence to build a viable company that can attract legitimate investment. At the same time, the workplace atmosphere is very toxic, and employees often express a strong desire to leave.

Toxic atmosphere

Pros

If you are right out of school or have very little experience; you will gain industry experience while working at Sanaria. Your coworkers will be some of the best people you'll ever get to work with (minus upper management). Best advice; work no longer than 3 years there. You will get the experience you need to move on to something better.

Cons

1. Toxic work environment. Upper management produces a blame and shame atmosphere which creates a fear based environment. This fear leads to good scientists giving upper management data they want to see, yet is not accurate. 2. It is not a "family" or a "mission". Upper management will speak of the Sanaria "family" and the "mission" of eradicating malaria. You are not their family and the mission is to get the product to market. The "mission" is the feel good story in front of the motivation of greed and glory. 3. Unethical practices. If you want to keep your job, you will have to participate in activities that are unethical, and illegal in some cases (mostly related to QA). You will have to sign batch records and documents that are not accurate. Those that come to Sanaria with experience often struggle with this and end up leaving. 4. No upward mobility. There is no opportunity for advancement. You may get a title change but it is meaningless because you are not allowed to tell your coworkers. There are management and director position but those too are meaningless because all decisions come down from a few individuals.
