Pros

Unfortunately, the pros are meaningless if the company doesn't treat employees right when laid off.

Cons

With department closing, engineers were given NO severance pay, and management was given only two weeks. Unfortunately, this is not something you ask during hiring interview. I would not recommend Roush, as upper management obviously can't be expected to "do the right thing" for impacted employees.

Pros

Funny place / people, great benefits.

Cons

HR and upper management does not care about the low level employees. Although we've been working 10 hours to make Roush a greater company, there is no reward for us. There is no relation between the Roush that we help and the one that we see on the commercials. They took years to give a simple t-shirt for us. How much it's a coffee mug to Roush? NOTHING! Bur for that hard worker guy, that means a lot! You have to show appreciation to us. We have terrible buildings, dirty bathrooms, leakage on the roof, archaic computers/tools, zero chance of promotion (unless you are the favorite one). The "leaders" on the building that I work shouldn't even been cleaning or toilets. They just don't care about the company. They never earned their positions.

Great Opportunity!

Pros

Roush is a great opportunity and provides (i) a competitive salary, (ii) cross-functional experience, and (iii) a can-do attitude. Roush is not a place that will pay a salary much higher than the market value of an employee. I see this as a strength and am knowledgeable about the compensation levels within the company. Roush is a forward-looking company with emphasis on long-term financial sustainability. The benefits of this approach to the employee is a much higher probability of a job when the market turns south. In 2008-09, Roush was able to attain a much high percentage of employees than other players within the markets they participate in. Roush also provides cross-functional leadership due to the nature of the organizational structure. It is entrepreneurial-minded and will give you a lot of opportunities to grow as an engineer and business professional. You can easily work within engineering, manufacturing, sourcing, and other functions in a short period of time. Roush has a can-do company culture. Roush has grown (revenue growth) significantly in the past ten years and is still growing at record rates; this has been accomplished by a can-do attitude and Roush is not afraid to take on a challenging project in a new market or take on a difficult customer with high expectations. This allows the employee to work in several markets and on exciting projects. In addition, if an employee has a good idea - with a business plan to back it - the leadership team is always willing to listen to pursue the idea.

Cons

Formal Training: Roush does not provide a lot of formal training; however, if you are a person who takes initiative, understands his/her weaknesses, and identifies a training course to improve the weakness then Roush will financial support the training. Like many other aspects of the company, you will need to take the first step.

Pros

There were absolutely no pro's to this position

Cons

I was hired as a senior Infirmation Security Analyst to help with compliance and regulatory matters on the defense side. I left a job of 15 years because I wanted a change and was very excited to take my experience in this field to Roush. Well, that excitement very quickly faded. I get there and they are very disorganized. The first full week or so I just sit there because there is no computer ready, there are no accounts created and I can do absolutely nothing because I have no access. During this time, I see and speak to my manager about 10 minutes total time. Pretty much no communication whatsoever. I sit in a office 8 hours a day with absolutely nothing to do. I finally get a computer and take their onboarding tests and start reading through some of their compliance stuff after a couple more days. Keep in mind, im into week 2. Week 2 I meet with my manager for about 10 minutes and pretty much no direction, no orientation of where the organization is in the compliance process, nothing that one would normally expect for this type of position. Week 3 and my manager is in India for a week. Another week of no communication. Week 4 I'm expected to run the change management process meeting. Keep in mind, I have still had no introduction to anyone, I barely know anyone on my... team. Im excluded from meetings, I still do not have the access I require, even the manager admits that he has pretty much ignored me. I try to do aspects of what I was hired to do only to be rebuked at every turn. I request the access I need so I can try to be more productive only for that request to be ignored. Even with my limited access I am successfully in some things like migrating their crowdstriks, as best as possible perform a couple gap analysis, write a software review process. I ask for more to do so I can perform some simblance of why I was hired only to be ignored. I would still try to ask questions of different people and departments to try and get an idea of what was going on only to be told I can't do that... its my job to ask and I sure wasn't getting anything from my boss. In the 2.5 months I was there, I probably had a cumulative 1 hour conversation with my boss and only saw him maybe 20 minutes in 2.5 months. Zero direction, almost zero inclusion in any meetings. Pretty much completely ignored by my manager the entire time I was there, and I get terminated last week... I left a 15 year job for this mess? I've run IT departments. I've run compliance and security departments. This place was the biggest joke ever. To top it off, I started out going in every day only to be told by several people that I was making them look bad because they lived closer and refused to come in. They brought me on knowing they were going to do layoffs.

Pros

Comfortable work environment, good management structure, HR Department for employees to ensure a safe environment for employees. Yearly Pay Raises, Paid Holidays, Healthcare, And Dental Insurance with some company partners who offer discounts to Roush Employees.

Cons

Starting Pay is low at Roush with Companies in the Same Industry offering higher pay for their employees. Decisions and information do take very long at times. It can have periods of slow downs, and work to do can be very scarce. That’s not very common, as the workplace is normally busy. Overtime is Available, but not mandatory. Work areas are difficult in the summer months without A/C.

Thank you very much for taking the time to share your comments and concerns. We appreciate your feedback and want to address both the positive aspects and areas where we can improve. We are pleased to hear that you find our work environment comfortable and our management structure effective. Our HR Department works diligently to ensure a safe environment for all employees, and we are glad that you value our yearly pay raises, paid holidays, and healthcare and dental insurance benefits. However, we do understand your concerns. Regarding wages, Roush constantly monitors market data to ensure that we are providing fair and competitive wages. When we review wages, we consider our total compensation package, which includes both wages and benefits. Our compensation package is designed to be competitive within our industry. Based on our deductibles, copays, coinsurance and out-of-pocket maximum, our benefit plan is above the 90th percentile of plans offered in the US. Our low out-of-pocket maximum, in particular, places our plan in the Platinum rating category. We have also taken steps to increase the amount the company pays into participating employees’ 401K accounts to help ease the burden of rising prices. We acknowledge that work areas can be challenging during the summer months without A/C, and we are exploring solutions to improve this in areas where A/C installation is a viable option. Your feedback is invaluable to us, and we will continue to look for ways to improve and address the concerns you have raised. Thank you for being a part of Roush and for your dedication to our company.

Roush works on such a wide variety of projects that it keeps it interesting as you're always working on something new.

Even though they recently changed their vacation policy it is still not up to par with other companies in the automotive industry.

Get in but get out

Pros

They are going to throw you in the deep end of the pool when you start - this makes it a great place to get experience as you're going to get exposed to a lot very quickly. The work can be challenging and interesteing at times. Health insurance benefits were pretty good.

Cons

Roush has a real culture problem especially with regards to retaining new talent, primarily because Jack Roush is notoriously cheap (so low salaries) and that cheapness now exists at almost every level of the company. The working environment is not great and can be hostile at times.
