Pros

The individual contributors I interacted with were hard-working, dedicated, and truly cared about the clients.

Cons

When I joined ProPharma Group six years ago it was a good place to work. Unfortunately that is no longer true. The company was about 400 people total when I started. Leadership truly cared about the business, the employees, and the clients. Now ProPharma Group has over 3,000 employees, with offices around the globe. This growth has come mostly through acquisitions and mergers. The leadership comprises the people who headed the companies that have been bought. Those companies generally had 400 staff members or fewer. Managing a 400 person local company is a very different skillset than running a 3,000 person global enterprise. The executives are either unable to recognize they aren’t qualified to run the business they have assembled, or aren’t willing to admit it. They base decisions on inaccurate and incomplete information. Morale in general is poor and staff turnover is high. This was exacerbated recently by a second round of layoffs. The severance package offered was best described as miserly. Each time a new acquisition is announced the joke is that we should send sympathy cards to the new employees. Staff deliberately withhold information from leadership for fear it will be misused. Within the last two years several long-term clients have cancelled their contracts. Six years ago ProPharmag Group leadership cared. Now ProPharma Group leadership cares about money, mostly their own.

Retroactive policies, poor corporate communication

Pros

Paycheck. Did I mention the paycheck? It's bi-weekly! The company is run poorly. In the age of information technology, colleagues work on clunky systems that are error prone and require lots of workarounds (i.e. it's your job as the employee to do your work correctly, even when the systems that you are required to use when doing work have known deficiencies/shortfalls). So, if you are able to carve out a niche there by doing good work despite all the limitations, you can usually cruise by under the radar without anyone giving you too hard of a time.

Cons

2024 is off to a bang. Within the past week, corporate has implemented 2 retroactive policies (meaning they backdate and are effective Janurary 1, 2024) 1. Our PTO policy was completely overhauled. Up until December 31, 2023, we had a "use it or lose it" policy wherein you could only carry over 80 hours of PTO at the end of the calendar year. In the waning months of 2023, HR sent out an email remdining everyone that the "use it or lose it" policy remained in place. Fast forward to Febrary 2024, and full-time employees no longer accure PTO. We can request as much PTO as we'd like. But there are a bunch of restrictions. Can't take time off for more than one week. Gone are the employee retention incentives (i.e. longer tenure = better PTO accrual rate). The announcement was done via a "please read" email from HR. Of course the cowards that made this decision were too afraid to announce this news during an open forum where grievances could be voiced and questions could be asked. 2. ProPharma gives annual raises to full-time colleagues (a measley 2% on average but it's better than nothing). In the past, raises for the calendar year went into effect on April 1st. Once our annual raise was effective, we would receive back pay dating back to all time worked since January 1st. In 2024, ProPharma has decided that annual raises will continue to go into effect on April 1st.... but they is no back pay this year. So whatever raise we get this year is effectively 1/4 less than it has been in years past. ProPharma says they did this to "align with industry standards." Whatever that means. We all know what it means. They're skimping on hard earned raises their employees deserve.

Toxic work environment

Pros

Got to meet and work with some amazing humans.

Cons

PPG was a great place to work when I first started, but ever since the globalization and mergers, its gone down hill. Management is out of touch with reality of how their teams are doing. They don't care or listen to their employees, yet they continue to micromanage us all without understanding our day to day work. They continue to lay off knowledgeable people and continue to shift their business to India without being transparent about their intentions. Do yourself a favor and keep job searching. Not worth the time or money with this toxic company.
