Pros

People here are nice, help is available, decent benefits and pay, good work life balance, good opportunities to learn

Cons

Government oriented work, older tech stack, management has little organization, favoritism, and company is fast to hire and layoff en masse

We agonized over our recent layoff, which was absolutely necessary due to the sudden and unexpected loss of a significant contract. Good luck with your employment search and we are here to support you if you need assistance.

Not what it used to be

Pros

It was (was, not is) a good company with good employees, work life balance, good snacks, good benefits, and an average compensation. I would have given 4 stars if it weren’t for the bad management and communication.

Cons

Cons: Not much room for career growth, No control over projects, bad management and communication (see below), Good "values" don't matter if they're not applied. Moebius is not what it used to be. Initially they were transparent about losing a project and the possibility of a layoff (which was respectable), but after that they randomly started communicating as if a layoff was unlikely. They also made other bad decisions and lied about giving 2 weeks of notice to the employees they laid off. Not only did they give no notice, but they did the layoff the week before the week they said they would give notice. If they were not sure about the time, they should have said so. Instead they left the laid-off employees jobless without notice a week before they were supposed to be. They also said they did the layoffs based on “experience and skills” but they actually kept many new grads over several people with years of experience, which makes their claim suspicious. Their choices weren’t necessarily wrong, but it’s wrong if they were dishonest about it. It seems they care less about their employees and their own values after losing funding.

We are sorry you feel you were misled, as that certainly wasn't our intent. We attempted to be as transparent as we could with our internal communications, but as you know, it's hard to give "notice" beyond what we provided, given the secure nature of the work we do. We took many factors into account in deciding who would be laid off. Best wishes in your future career.

Pros

*The software engineers I worked with all were smart and knowledgeable. *I enjoyed the remote friendly culture, most positions are almost fully remote except the occasional on site. *The workload wasn't too intense either, and felt mostly laid back. * There's a variety of projects to work on that all seem interesting with modern tech stacks and a large amount of ownership compare to big tech.

Cons

* Salaries are at the low end of the industry and yearly salary increases are modest ~4%. * Slow to promote. A Lot of Jr engineers spend 3+ years without getting promoted *Incredibly stingy with yearly bonuses. They make you do a bunch of extracurriculars(present a tech talk, coach an intern, etc) to earn points to qualify for the yearly bonus, which really just felt like an excuse to deny people it. The bonus should be awarded for exemplary work on your team, not random sidequests. * The management seems to lack basic technical knowledge, and mostly comes from non-technical background. I was astonished that my manager had essentially zero technical grasp of the new project I was joining, leading to the project being severely misrepresented and me deciding to leave. * Additionally, my manager only gave me ~3 business days warning of the new project starting. Terrible communication on his part as a manager and took no accountability when it was brought to his attention.
