Pros

The company is alive thanks to grants and funding from various sources

Cons

50% of the company seems to be directors, vice presidents, and upper management. With so many managers the target changes daily. You could put a substantial amount of time into something only for the target to change daily when one of the leadership go off on a tangent. You get treated pretty bad at this company. If you are going to work here and there’s any travel required you have to use your own credit card to fund the travel. You then have to wait weeks for the expense to be approved and the finance dept here couldn’t care less about the money you’re paying interest on to fund travel for the company. What kind of organization this big does this kind of thing?

Pros

Mariner has an exceptional group of employees!!!! The dynamics of the people you meet within the Mariner group is an experience that 125 people get to share in. It is the co-workers that you meet along the way that force you to get up in the morning and go to work. (I searched down deep for that one)

Cons

Psychologically toxic workplace. Low Moral and over worked employees are faced with everyday Management Bully Tactics. If concerns are voiced, your job is threatened. Employees that bring up the problem are viewed as the problem to be solved, instead of addressing the real issue. The office prides itself on their Senior Management and VP Representatives that belong to the so called “old boys club”. Their years of working experience lack knowledge in dealing with human beings and is dually noted on a daily basis. There is neither compassion nor inclusion and lack direction. Employees are simply viewed of disposable items and can be replaced. One’s job never feels secure!!!!

Pros

Consulting is being rented out, and sometimes it feels like the only value you provide is being billable. At Mariner - billables are important. But it is not the only thing. Your skills, and how you provide value to your customers and the company are how you are measured. The company spends time matching you with the right customer, so there is alignment. They have great benefits, frequent social events, (in-person and remote), they pay you what you are worth, and have very strong leadership. Senior management is very transparent with staff on how the company is doing. They have done a really good job as well handling Covid, and in my opinion, have put their employees first. Their back-to-work plan for in-office was aligned with each individual back to work goals. No one was forced to do anything they were not comfortable with.

Cons

Perhaps - increase RRSP matching to a higher annual threshold. (very minor)
