I have been working at Manulife full-time for less than a year

    Pros

    - Strong employee base with very knowledgeable professionals to help you learn. - Practices and preaches work-life balance. - Transitions between departments is easy, better able to explore different areas and roles in the company.

    Cons

    - Highly bureaucratic - Too much IT contracting

    Advice to Management

    - Don't be afraid to commit to full-time employees. Loss of productivity could hurt the company in the long term with all the contract IT workers.

I worked at Manulife full-time for less than a year

    Pros

Faced paced approach to moving to new tech Senior management is surely talented

    Cons

Office space is too less. Shared workplace culture. You sit wherever you find a place. Not a good cost cutting measure. Work life balance depends on project to project and the delivery date Design System is still updating which leads to deferred development Illogical cost cutting like shutting down the cloud env after work hours and on weekends. Promotions very hard to get on merit rather than years of exp.... Benefits are ok but very deceiving at times and are manipulative. Too much stress on core values. Agile is very new to them and the employees.

    Advice to Management

Seats need to be assigned to people. So they know exactly where to go in the morning without the fear of not finding a seat and then improvising Too much stress on core values.

I worked at Manulife full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

Highly recommended for young professionals who will learn and grow quite substantially early on in their careers. Opportunities to get involved in some neat projects. Company invests in keeping itself current/modern. New CEO Roy seems great.

    Cons

Not too many cons; management takes too long to make certain decisions around investing big dollars in transformational projects. Senior level roles (AVP and above) are a revolving door. There’s less security in those jobs.

    Advice to Management

Continue to invest in next generation talent. Ensure top talent does not leave due to middle/senior management politics. Become more agile and invest faster, company can afford it. Substantial cost cutting exercises don’t fly with millennials. Continue to be purpose driven but also reward and recognize more, including monetarily.

I have been working at Manulife full-time

    Pros

Great work/life balance. Friendly colleagues. Lots of opportunities for formal and unformal trainings.

    Cons

Activities are very siloed. Hard to get information when you are not HQ-based.

    Advice to Management

Leverage talent and expertise whereever they are, not just in the Toronto area.
