Pros

Co-staff can be amazing, Benefits are good, pension is okay-but doesn't make up for lack of wage increases.

Cons

Co-staff can be Awful, and managers don't do anything about it. Too many managers and middle-management. Very top heavy organization. Illogical decisions when spending money - massive capital asset purchases or renovations, full workspace updates every few years for specific departments, but heaven forbid we want to pay anything more to staff. Outright refusal/actively working to fight raises, constantly - AUPE staff have seen next to nothing in wage increases compared to cost of living - with some years seeing as much as a 16.5% increases in inflation with token 1% increases that you were contractually obligated to provide. For reference, a person who started working at the college in 2017 compared to today has at least 20% less purchasing power than they did in 2017, thats after 7 years committed to a single employer, with wages that are lower than other institutions in Alberta - let alone within the same city! Because the UofL has quality of life increases to compensate for inflation changes - the pay difference between the two organizations is anywhere from $8-15/hr higher at the UofL, for the same job and same training requirements.
